For Elaine from Whiston, Willowbrook has a special place in her heart as it was there that her husband Phil was cared for before sadly passing away in 2006 from bone cancer at just 53 years of age.
Elaine explains, “The hospice was amazing with Phil and all my family. The care he received there was outstanding and nothing was ever too much trouble. They even let me stay overnight at the hospice so that I could be by Phil’s side. Even though Phil passed away at home he was still cared for by the hospice right until the end.
“I started doing the Moonlight Walk when it first began, way back in 2007 and have taken part ever since. It’s a fabulous, fun event for all the family but more importantly, it’s a great way of raising vital funds for the hospice. I will never forget what Willowbrook did for Phil and taking part in the Moonlight Walk is my way of giving something back. We had supported Willowbrook for years with donations kindly received from our customers at Phil’s convenience store, but had never realised how valuable it was until we had to use its services.”
Elaine added “Willowbrook is a truly special place but unfortunately, you never know if, or when, you will need its help. That’s why I’m asking everyone in Knowsley and St Helens to sign up to the ‘Walk now to try and help raise money so that the hospice can continue to care and support local people.
Melissa Kenny, fundraiser for Willowbrook Hospice says: “Our Moonlight Colour Walk is fast approaching and we need everyone to get behind Willowbrook. It’s a great event and if you have thought about taking part before but have never got round to, now is your chance! We ask everyone to try to raise as much money as they can. Every penny counts, so help your local hospice to make a real difference to local people!”
