Why Volunteer
Volunteers are an essential part of the hospice team. Some volunteers have specific skills that they are able to use to help the hospice, many others offer commitment and enthusiasm, which is equally valued.

There are many reasons why people volunteer for Willowbrook Hospice. These are just a few of the reasons we have been told why people volunteer

To make a difference
- People want to give something back to the hospice because of their personal experience at the Hospice or elsewhere
- Some want to make a difference to the lives of others less fortunate than themselves
- Using their professional skills and knowledge to benefit others (usually described as pro bono)
For personal reasons
- It gives them a chance to socialise, meet new people and make new friends
- Makes them feel valued and part of a team
- Have fun, laugh and feel uplifted
- Get to know the local community
To enhance employment prospects
- Gaining new skills, knowledge and experience
- Developing existing skills and knowledge
- Enhance a CV and improve employment prospects
- Helps to build up their own confidence and self esteem
For other reasons
- Have quality time away from work or a busy lifestyle
- Some businesses allow employees a chance to volunteer as part of their support for the local community
For younger volunteers
- It gives them an insight of the working environment
- Teaches them to be reliable, honest and hardworking
- Helps them to start to build up some experience of life for their own personal CV
