On 19th April, long-serving members of staff and volunteers attended a special service at St Helens Parish Church to see Neil Wright, Chief Executive, receive the Freedom of the Borough on behalf of Willowbrook Hospice.
This is the highest honour the Borough can bestow on its local citizens and recognizes the dedication of all Willowbrook staff and volunteers in providing much-needed care to patients and support to carers and families over the last 15 years.
The service was followed by a Civic reception at the Town Hall, attended by the Lord Lieutenant of Merseyside, the Mayor, the Chief Executive and Leader of the Council.
Lady Kirsty Pilkington, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Willowbrook, received the Freedom of the Borough in her own right in recognition, not only of her magnificent work for Willowbrook, but also for her involvement in, and support of, numerous local charities. As Councillor Wally Ashcroft said at the service “Lady Kirsty is a treasure!” – but everyone at Willowbrook already knows that!!!
