GP Palliative Care Course 2013

This course is a collaboration between three integrated clinical networks for the GPs of Liverpool, Sefton, St Helens and Knowsley. The lead facilitators are the experienced medical teams from Marie Curie Hospice, Willowbrook Hospice and Woodlands Hospice.

Introduction

Symptom control in patients at the end of life can be extremely challenging for healthcare professionals.

The course has now been in existence for four years and is designed to focus on the common management issues that arise when caring for patients in the palliative phase of their illness.

Workshops, group discussions and lectures, facilitated by senior clinicians and GPs experienced in palliative care, will allow participants to develop their knowledge, skills and confidence when dealing with symptom control issues.

Course Description

6 monthly evening sessions at The Village Hotel, Whiston, spread between January 2013 and June 2013.

Sessions run from 18.30 to 21.00 hrs with an evening meal at the start. Participants are expected to attend all 6 sessions.

Aims of the Course

The course will:

• Provide evidence based updates on symptom management topics.
• Provide information about emerging approaches to symptom control.
• Provide opportunity for facilitated group discussions and real cases.

Cost

£75 for 6 evening sessions.
